Description of Havanese is an Intelligent, outgoing and funny small dog. They average 7–13 pounds, and life expectancy is 14 to 16 years. They are characterized as vivacious, sociable, cheerful little dogs with a spring in their step and a gleam in their eyes. Their adaptable nature and social skills make Havanese content to be anywhere that they can command the attention of admirers young and old alike. They are smart and trainable extroverts with the comic instincts of a born clown. Havanese are also excellent watchdogs and take the job seriously, but will usually keep the barking to a minimum.  Even though they have a double coat, they are considered a non-shedding hypoallergenic dog.

Description of Toy Poodle is a playful, intelligent, trainable and alert dog. The toy poodle averages 6 to 10 pounds and has a life expectancy of as long as 18 years. They are characterized as instinctual extroverts that have extreme emotional sensitivity, and therefore, prefer humans to dogs.  The toy poodle thrives in a large active household, as their ‘heaven’ is being the center of attention. A toy poodle rarely sheds and is considered a hypoallergenic breed. In addition, they are ‘clean’ dogs having been known to lack the “dog” smell often associated with other breeds.

With the cross of these two breeds – Havanese and Toy Poodle – you have the best of both breeds which includes, but not limited to, a non-shedding, hypoallergenic dog with extreme intelligence. Hava-poos are beautiful little dogs with a wide range of curly or wavy mid-length coat possibilities. The Hava-poo will average 7–15 pounds, and carry a life expectancy like their parents of 14 to 16 years.

Due to being non-shedding, the Hava-poo needs to be combed to remove all dead-hairs to keep their unique coat shiny and healthy. It is suggested that a Hava-poo should be trimmed or clipped down twice a year and shampooed at least once a month, or as necessary. Check inside ears once a week and pluck away any long hairs to avoid infection. Long hairs should be clipped away from eyes as well.

Naturally friendly, playful, and smart, Hava-poos get along very easily with children and other dogs. While some Hava-poos are very outgoing, they also possess a gentle and cuddly attitude, and will prefer to spend its time close to its family.  Therefore, they are an appropriate choice for even apartment or condo type living. The Hava-poo appreciates a calm and confident owner to instill their authority and praise, at the proper times. Hava-poos are incredibly sensitive to voices and will respond best to positive tones, praise and encouragement.
